The Death of the Forest : a report on wuzhishan's and green rich's tree planatation activities in Cambodia
The World Rainforest Movement (WRM) is an international network of citizen groups from the South and the North involved in efforts to defend the world's forests. It works to ensure the land tenure and the means of survival of the peoples inhabiting rainforests and supports their efforts to defend themselves from commercial logging, dams, mining, oil exploitation, plantationis, shrimp farms, settlements and other projects that place them at risk.
In 1998, the WRM launched a campaign against large-scale monoculture tree plantations that are increasingly being established in several countries, mainly in the South. The negative impacts of those plantations have already been experienced at the local level, both by the communities and the environment. The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness and organize opposition against that kind of forestry pattern.
