Preshistoric Men

Prehistoric Men first appeared in the Field Museum of Natural History's "Popular Series: Anthropology, Number 37" in 1948. I was invited to write it by an old friend, Dr. Paul S. Martin of the Museum, under whom I had spent a happy summer excavating in New Mexico in 1940. The book went through six editions for the Museum, and now the Museum has generously agreed to release it to Scott, Foresman and Company for wider distribution.
Dr. Martin's invitation clearly implied that the book should be written for a popular audience. I took this implication seriously.
