Legal Pluralism and Unofficial Law in Social, Economic and Political Development : papers of the XIIIth International Congress 7-10 April 2002 Chiang Mai, Thailand
Considering the extensive violations of human rights in all parts of the world, the relativist position claiming that the ideals they incarnate are only relevant to the Western world seems doubtful. In any case, the Indian state has made commendable efforts in order to achieve the ideals of human rights in India and thus they have become part of the Indian reality. At the same time, the approach adopted to achieve those ideals, although quite pluralistic in its implementation mechanisms, has not been responsive to the specific demands of the Indian situation in a true sense.
